Valve springs snug on guides

Working on building a '49 Merc. This engine was rebuilt many years ago but never fired. I tore it back down and I'm doing a nice mild hotrod build. The engine has new aftermarket valve guides in it. I bought a new set of Isky valve springs but they're just slightly snug on the guides. Do they need to move freely around on the guides or will they be fine they way they are? I'd rather not have to turn a few thousandths off all of them. Thanks in advance!

That will work fine the springs should locate nicely on the guides if they are snug not removing any metal you will be good to go.

No disrespect intended to the wiser heads on this board But without understanding the term “snug” I really don’t think a valve spring chafing on a guide is such a good idea. There is bound to be some material (iron) finding its way into the lube oil.
And that is something you might want to keep an eye on

The guide necks down surely before the second wind of the spring, so I doubt anything is really rubbing much. The first wind should be firm against the seat at all times.
