So, I bought a '30 Canadian coupe from a guy in New Hampshire who said his wife wanted him to get a T-Bird. He got the car one year earlier from an old man in Maine who had restored it. It ran poorly, due to the gasahol in the tank, he said. It ran good when he got it, but he never used the car.
After I got it home and went through the electrics and fuel systems, it managed to idle, but had no power under load.
When I pulled the head I found a gooey mess around #'s 1 & 4. The intake valve springs for those cylinders were slanted at the bottom, and those valves were hammered. The other seats will probably clean up and I'll lap in the new valves.
My question: can I clean up the two bad intake seats with the lifters still in the block, or should I bite the bullet and tear-down the entire engine?
