Valve seat cutter and proper pilot

From everything I've seen, the best seat quality is still done with a stone. But I might use a multi-angle Neway type cutter to do the initial cuts - then finish the final seat-prep with a stone.

Totally off topic, but I have to ask: GB, why do you have a bottle of "instant rust"?

You had to ask. I'll keep it short, as usual....Last week I built an ignition timer and did some other repairs on a 1930's barn find drag saw. Heat new cad plated hardware store bolts cherry red to remove plating. Drop into jar of 30% vinegar, hydrogen peroxide and table salt. Notice the new bolts don't wink at you. Now go back to the regularly scheduled thread about carbide vs carborendum. :)

I love your home-brew solutions!! On the opposite end of the scale : If blacksmiths want to keep an iron item they just made from rusting and maintain the beautiful black iron look they heat it warm enough to melt paraffin wax all over it, let it cool and buff the item.
