Hard time removing one valve guide got it out had to hit guide tool very hard. new two peace guide will not go inplace . cleaned bore with brush will not slip in
thanks john

I recommend modern valves, new springs, keepers, and adjustable lifters. The guides that slip in from below and are held by the springs are the way to go. See https://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/product.htm?pid=978798&cat=41697

If you still want to use the two-piece guides, enlarge the bore a little bit with an adjustable reamer or hone. Just enough to get the guide in. You can make a home made hone by slitting a piece of wood or metal rod lengthwise about an inch. Then fold a strip of emery paper in half with the grit outside and put it in the slit. Then fold the emery paper enough so that it will go in the hole. Turn with a variable speed drill motor. Fold the emery paper so that it will lay flat when the rod is turned with the drill motor and not bind. The emery paper will have to be the right length so that it will fit in the hole. If too long it will not fit. If too short it will not do a quick job of honing out the hole. Experiment.

Don’t take metal from the block,it’s hard to replace, take it off the guide—- has the guide been tried in other places?

Kurt has some good advice. My recommendation to hone the hole was based on the assumption that the hole was undersize. Measure the guide and hole to determine which way to go.

Probably not a coincidence that the prior guide was jammed and now the new guide won’t fit. Figure out what’s wrong with the bore.
