Valve Guide Removal --8ba

 Slowly disassembling the engine.
Everything moved rather easily with a 12 inch breaker bar when I tried to remove the clutch. I had soaked valve parts, cam, crank, cylinder bores, etc. w/Kroil for about 3 months.

Pistons not out yet, but cylinders look surprisingly smooth so far.

Got valve parts out and then the guides.
I wonder why intake valve guides consistently took a lot more force to remove than exhaust guides. [Used an 8 inch c-clamp and square steel plate aligned with valve centerline]

Is this common?
If so, is there a "gluing" action from the o-ring type seals, a tighter fit on intake guides, or what?

the intakes do have a rubber ring around the intake guides, the heat from the engine vulcanises them to the guide holes, they can get really stuck and hard to remove, ive had to cut the valves and then use a special punch made to drive the guides out the bottom, the tool is a two step punch, a small extension on the punch that goes in the valve hole, and a bigger part that fits on top of the guide so it can be driven out the tool is easy to make and really necessary on some engines

To make the tool turn down a 3/8 x 1 1/2" gr 8 bolt with a shoulder on it to .341 .340"" keep head on drop in guide and drive out with brass drift. this should let you reuse guides if they are serviceable.
