Good afternoon, Iwas wondering if some of you can help me I have a 55 yblock 272 C.I. the valvr covers have no writing on them but on the bottom third ofthem are 8 embossed lines I think these are correct. I bought a set today that have the same lines on them but embossed in the middle of the cover are the letters F O R D what are these covers off of, a truck motor or a 312 twelve or 292 does anyone have an idea?
thanks carguy 01

On the motors I have seen, the covers that say F O R D are from a truck. The 312 usually have just the lines, then a sticker above the lines. Some say MERCURY embossed. The cast aluminum are rare and expensive, now being reproduced, still more expensive than my empty pockets can afford. Really nice though.

Carguy1....I have a 55 sedan with a 272 and have been told that the valve covers are original to the car and they are the same as you have on yours....john in CT

John - as far as i know, all the 54-57 valve covers had just the lines plus a decal on them. The embossed valve covers came later (don't know when). Even the early trucks had the decals, I remember seeing 54 trucks with decals, not the embossing.

I have a 55 Fairlane and my 272 came with plain one too . The ones with FORD came in the late 50's or early 60's trucks . Those look nice too with the FORD painted a different color than the covers !

To the best of my knowledge, the embossed valve covers only came on late 50's to '64 trucks with 292 engines. Dont know the exact year ('57, 58 ?) they started using the embossed covers.
