Valve adjustment

If both valves are on their seats (looked through spark plug hole) and on the compression stroke and lifters are at their lowest point in lifter bores, okay to set the valves?

Ronnie is right...Search this site.
The method I use is "Set intake when same cylinder's Exhaust starts to open. Set Exhaust when same cylinder's intake just closes."

Thanks guys, am ready now. I did this when the engine was on the engine stand with the heads off and was easy to do. Engine is in the car now with the heads on, not so easy. Was looking for cause of low compression on a couple cylinders and overall low vacuum and discovered I installed valve guide retainers (4) incorrectly and guides moved up into the ports. What is amazing is the car ran so good, should be better now!

I read somewhere that there is not a sin uncommon to man. We have all had similar "oop's" in this hobby. These old flatheads are tough birds. Rejoice that this time you got to it before any serious damage was done.
Thanks for sharing that your normal.
