Valley pan cover question

Hi to all...I just removed the valley pan cover from a 1956 Victoria with a 312 engine due to an oil leak in the rear of the valley cover. Is there supposed to be a square support box on the underside of the valley cover ?
The bolt goes thru the hole and there is no support box to minimize over tightening of the cover. My t-bird has the same engine as this Victoria and it has that support box....Are the valley covers different on full size fords ?.....
Also,it has a neoprene seal instead of the cork....which is better ?
Should I use RTV with either seal ?.........John in CT

I see the error of my ways..........the valley pan on the 55-57 t-birds has the road draft tube on the pan rear and the box i am talking about is where the road draft tube is attached. On the full size Fords, the road draft tube is on the left front of the block....

So forget about my post, I have come to my senses...thank you

When ever I redo a Y block, I drill a hole in the four corners of the cover, then match those holes in the block and tap for 10/24 or smaller screws. If you paint the screw heads, they are very hard to see, but they sure do help keep the oil in. If you have the cover for a road draft tube, weld up the screw hole in the bottom, then hammer the bottom down a bit and a 302 rocker cover PCV grommet can be glued in.
