Hi Mike, to answer your question, I (we) need to know where the wiper motor is mounted, inside or outside.
If you have 3 holes in the windshield frame on the driver side, then your car used an outside mounted wiper, 1 hole means it used one mounted on the inside.
My '31 Slant uses an inside mounted wiper like the one shown on the right. The wiper on the left is an outside mounted wiper, like used on coupes and pickups.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
herb

My dad put an electric wiper on the car and I was toying with the idea of going back to vacuum more for aesthetic reasons. I dug these out of dad's scrap parts bin and thought he got one for the car and the other for parts.

Herb, my car has three holes on the driver side of the windshield. And Glenn, yes I use rain-x, it is my friend.

Hi Mike,

Can't blame you for wanting to install a wiper.

A drawback with vacuum wipers is that when one gives his Model A the gas to pass a car, the vacuum wiper enters into a coma & stops .............. until one lets off of the gas whereby it starts wiping again.

However, after thinking about driving in the rain without a wiper, then possibly getting in an accident, (whether my fault or not), I thought how a judge or jury could have a blast pointing fingers at someone negligently driving in the rain without a windshield wiper .................. right or wrong, "no" wiper is as much a No-No as driving with no brakes.

Hence, I re-installed the working 6V vintage aftermarket wiper that came with my Town Sedan only because I thought ............. at least I would have a working vintage 1930 wiper.

Next, after trying this 6V wiper in the rain, (& also formerly having tried several Model A vintage vacuum wipers), I think it would be more effective to place & tie a dog on the hood & let him wipe the windshield with his tail while he ate dog treats.

Per Mr. Glenn's reply # 3, (& as previously mentioned often), "Rain-X" works exceptionally well when provided in strict accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

Just hope this second-the-motion on "Rain-X" helps anyone to see better & prevent accidents while driving their Model A in the rain ................ besides when the dog treats get wet, the dog may stop wagging his tail.

My first experience with Rain-X was about 15 years ago, when I put it on half the windshield of my modern car. I was amazed to be able to have clear vision with no wipers during the rainfall.

BTW, have you noticed that according to the weatherman we no longer have snowfalls or rainfalls? Everthing is a STORM. Even if a few snowflake gently falling, it's a STORM. :D

When you find the wiper that's for your car I found a guy to rebuild it. I had him do one for me , for a 50 sedan, but he does all the vac. wipers. And not too expensive.

The nice thing about a straight windshield with visor is that the rain just sheets right off due to gravity. So even thought the electric wiper does not work well, the rain-X will make up for it. I learned that anything over about 5 mph and the wind pins the blade down. Maybe I can just turn the switch around on the blue motor? It is another thing to add to the list of things to do to the car.

What lubrication do you recommend for vacuum wipers? I read brake fluid is the best.
Is true

The best is to take it apart and check the condition of the flapper seal and re lube with Vaseline.

Other than that, and thin oil will do no harm. Squirt it in and move the wiper by hand while doing so.
