vacuum wiper motor

Can't seem to turn it all the way off or on. It will go but not return, if I have it on or off. So it is always straight down. Rebuild kit fix it up?

Send it to Kent. You won't be sorry.

I "rebuilt" mine without any parts. Just took it apart, figured out why it was doing what you describe, fixed it, cleaned it, lubricated it (with distributor cam grease - nothing else) and it works fine. Give it a try. You might get lucky like I did. Be sure to test it hooked up to vacuum sitting on the fender before reinstalling it to make sure you've really fixed it.

Squirt some oil down the vacuum supply tube and move the wipers back and forth by hand a few times. The felt paddle in the motor will dry out over time and not hold vacuum. Often, this is all it takes to get them going again.

The wiper motors are fairly simple devices but not always simple to repair when needed. The top gasket can leak on one side of the chamber and not the other. The flapper seal can get crudded up and not seal well one way or both ways. The reversing valve under the little cover on the face can get crudded up. The on off sliding valve can leak due to the gasket or spring tensioner being weak. If you open it up and inspect it, you can find out pretty quick if all it needs is a gasket kit or not. If it is apparent that it's beyond your capabilities to repair something then you can send it out to a specialist. I wouldn't even open it up unless you are prepared to either replace gaskets or make new gaskets to repair old torn ones.
