vacuum wiper hose schematic

Hello folks! I'd like to get my wipers working since I've got the radio removed and have better access to the vacuum hoses. I'm a bit lost as to where all the hoses go and how to perform the "soak the leather flaps to loosen them" procedure. I believe also that the hot water valve for the heater taps into these vacuum hoses via a tee correct?

1. Does anyone have a good schematic of where all of the hoses go? I see the 2 outlets near the foot controlled bulb, then an outlet on the right side of the wiper housing, then a few Tee's in between.
2. I have a new fuel/vacuum pump so where does the hose go from the fuel/vacuum pump "wiper" outlet to?
3. what do I disassemble to access the leather flaps?

You don't tell us what year and model car you are working on.
Assuming it is a 55-56 Ford full size model, I will offer this.
1) at the fuel pump; the top of the pump is marked "in" and "out". A metal tube should be connected between the pump vacuum inlet and the brass vacuum fitting on the engine intake manifold (in front of the carb). A second metal tube should run from the pump vacuum outlet fitting to a rubber hose entering into the firewall.
2) That hose running into the firewall immediately terminates with a nylon "Tee" fitting near the vacuum windshield wiper motor.
3) From the "Tee" run a second hose up to the wiper motor. From the "Tee" run a third hose over to the vacuum operated windshield washer pump connection.

I agree with what Dave said. I little note to what he said is that the foot pump on the left side under the dash activates the windshield washer using no vacuum. The vacuum hoses that are on the body of the pump arm turns the wipers on when the pump is used. My Ford shop manual has a pretty good diagram of the hose layout. If you don't have a shop manual it's a lot of help in a lot of stuff you may get into. You can order one from several of the old Ford restoration parts such as Mac's, Dennis Carpenter, Tee Bird and several more. Good luck!

So I do have a Ford Division Ford Car Shop Manual but it does not have a great schematic.

Larry, is there any way you could scan it in and send to me or post it on this thread?

To add some information my car is a 1956 fairlane 4 door hardtop. I have an aftermarket Holley carb (4160 universal 600 CFM). The vacuum powered hot water heater valve was unusable thus I've switched to a simple hand turned valve for the hot water valve so I know I need to cap off the vacuum line somewhere for this but not sure where that Tee's off. I ordered from Mac's Auto Parts the two wiper vacuum hose kits and the break out is as follows. 1. 42" x 7/16 OD x 1/4 ID, 2. 10" x 7/16 x 1/4, 3. 48" x 7/16 x 1/4, and 4. 40" x 3/8 x 3/16. Any help identifying where these hoses go will be helpful. I believe the smaller ID/OD hose is for the top of the F-Tee on top of the washer fluid bag that goes to the spray nozzle on the hood. Thanks.

Larry and David,
There are 2 inlets/outlets on the foot activated pump arm, (see second picture). Which one get's connected? I found that activating the foot pump just opens a little valve between the two inlets/outlets.

Second question. What goes to the hose connection on the very left side of the wiper motor? I know the large connection/inlet on the right/center of the motor is where the main vacuum line goes to from the fuel and vacuum pump.

Hello everyone! Thanks to members of this forum I've received the answers I'm looking for and hopefully can provide future folks with the correct answer. See the attached pictures below that show the proper diagram. From the fuel/wiper pump in the engine bay, run the vacuum hose through the hole in the fire wall. From there insert a "T" fitting. One end of the T will continue on to the wiper motor to the inlet on the middle back of the motor that points to the passenger side and the other end of the T goes to either of the 2 inlets on the end of the foot pump. Then the other inlet on the foot pump goes back to the inlet on the wiper motor that is closest to the driver but still points to the passenger side.

When you push on the foot pump it opens a little valve that is normally closed to allow vacuum pressure to activate a little "solenoid" to activate the mechanical switch on the motor.

Lastly, the backside of the bulb on the footpump goes through the firewall and has an inlet where the tube goes to the bottom of the "F" shaped T on the See-Clear wiper fluid bag. Then another tube goes from the top of the "F" shaped T to the hood sprayer nozzle. And finally a short tube is inside of the fluid bag from the T to the bottom of the bag.

Again thanks to those who helped answer and see the pictures below for clarity!
