Vacuum Wiper help

I have installed the vacuum wiper on the phaeton . It is a restored after market Trico. When I got it I noted that the output shaft was slightly bent . Once connected there is a slight hiss coming from the front of the wiper whether it is switched on or not . The idle is also slightly lumpy. I suspect that there is a leak from the base of the output shaft . It still works ok however. Has anyone had this problem and does anyone have a solution

Call the seller or who worked on it and send it back. It might or might not get worse. No hissing sound should come from motor when switch is off .Might come from top to base gasket. Is it a black painted standard wiper or a Chrome Deluxe wiper? Take the wiper off the car ,run a air line to the wiper , put LIQUID dishwasher soap near shaft and send air to unit and see if bubbles blow? like testing for hole's in a flat tire.Sometimes its a leak from the valve stem..

Good advice. I also have problems with my vacuum wiper - I guess from what I have read that they are very unpredictable and a lot of guys rely on RainX. I do have a question:

You have both mentionned a "hissing" sound. Is it normal that they "hiss" when "on". Mine does, but not when it is off. Is this normal?

I am also going to try your dishwasher soap test with very low pressure.

Hissing sound I would think indicates a LEAK, not normal, will contribute to performance just like an intake manifold leak would. JMO
