Vacuum test results

I thought my idle was a little rough so after checking of some of the usual suspects, I ran a vacuum gauge via the wiper line. In the old days I would have described my engine as "missing."
Note that for my tests, the spark lever was about 3/4 way down the quadrant.

My results were:
1. When running at any other rpm than idle, the gauge was pinned steady at about 17 inches.

2. At idle, the needle was like a jack rabbit, fluctuation between about 15-20. Keep in mind that my gauge is rather cheap and from what I can tell the needle is not damped. So, the reading was really shaking within the range noted. I'll try to post a video somehow. Comparing my results with the website http://www.secondchancegarage.com/public/186.cfm , the closest match that I can find was scenario 8. However, my gauge's fluctuation is nowhere near as smooth as illustrated (again, that could be my gauge).

So the fat question is, what now? To me, other than the little rough idle (and I do mean little), the car runs well with good powder. Do you guys have any opinions as to my vacuum readings?
Assuming the guides are worn, is that a weekend warrior job with limited tools or is pro$$$ job?

Thanks
Leo
