I replaced the cracked exhaust manifold on my completely stock A. I got the new one from Synder's. When putting it back together there was about a .010-.015 discrepancy between the level of
the new exhaust and old intake manifolds. (Exhaust higher than intake) I thought that the gap was small enough that the thick gasket with a compressible center would cover it. I guess I was wrong because I get a loud whistling sound that I never had before. The sound goes away at speed when driving. The car idles and runs good however. I am guessing it is a small but noisy vacuum leak. The intake manifold or carburetor
don't seem to have a vacuum tap anywhere so I can't check with a vacuum gauge. I guess I will try putting heavier grease around the intake connections before I take it all off and go to a machine shop to level everything out.
Anyone know what else whistles on an A engine? Thanks.....
