Vacuum Bagging New Tires

I agree with Jay on the blk trash bags- though I think both are a good idea.

compounds do break down over time, so results will vary.

Not much diff then putting away a brand new pair of shoes for ten yrs. The threads and glue will disintegrate over time.

the OP did not state how long "for a while" is? or is going to be? I can't even imagine vacuum packing tires, i have a perfectly good, new NIB sort of thing for food vacuuming... and i cannot even get it to seal, deflate, etc food consitantly! 2nd unit, too!!

shoe: I have a pair of leather 3/4 steel sole mountaineering hiking boots. HD type! purchased in 1973 or thereabouts... and still today are like brand new! soft, supple leather, all threads in place and stable... (neatsfoot oil)

just thot I'd toss in those 2-cents for 'weiw'! :)

Tho ozone comes from the infinitesimally small spark when the brushes on the compressor motor go over the gap in the commutator. Old reefer in the garage —-> worn brushes —-> bigger spark.

That's pretty old technology you're talking about, I doubt if there's many, if any, of them antique refrigerators still running in residential garages.

Most AC motors don't use brushes. Most domestic small electric motors have 2 sets of windings, the running windings and the starting windings. When the motor first starts both sets of windings are energized, when the speed gets up to a high level the "starting switch" opens to disconnect the starting windings from the circuit. When that switch opens there would be a small spark, and tha's it for sparks as long as the motor is running.

Sealed unit compressor systems for refrigerators started being used around 1940 and have been used ever since. That's the most common type of refrigerator there is. No open sparks.

I think like others: cool, dark and no varmints to do chewing. How long will they be stored ? Lay flat with no more than 2 stacked together.

Are you also replacing the inner tubes? Same ozone/light degradation would apply with tubes. On a side note; I've dug up old black plastic visqueen been buried for years, a bit dirty but not degraded at all. Probably shouldn't bury your tire's, Ha, but does lend credence to the light and ozone comments.
