Vacumn bottle/Hemmings 36-5W

Anyone notice in todays Hemmings online the 36 5 window for sale? I'm wondering just what the heck is that (apparent) vacumn bottle on left side of engine that has a line running to fuel pump.
Anyone know what that is????

Not a top oiler, I have one of those on my 8BA and its not a beehive, its a black tank, looks to be about 4 1/2 in dia laying on its side by steering column with two lines off a tee and one of them is running to fuel pump???????????????
Its a really really nice 5 window, should be for over 40K

Sure sounds like the vac cannisters we used to sell at the Ford dealer back in the 70's and 80's. It was the size of a large tomato juice can and was ribbed, maybe 8 inches tall. Painted black. Had the fitting in one end and you used a tee from a vac source and to the hidden headlamp vac motors back then. THese kept the doors shut overnight. THey also used these for the AC systems. Ford actuallly had these as an accessory item back in the 40's for the wipers.
Couldn't find the pic on Hemmings, but the description sure sounds like one.

That item may very well be an oil filter. The ad lists that the car has a bunch of different acccessories and they can be seen in the photos.

The canister being horizontal would require its removal from the cylinder head to service it in order not to make a mess. It looks like one line goes to the back of the block and the other connects with the breather stand. If it is a vacuum can, then the one line should connect to the intake manifold. Not all accessories were all that handy. I don't remember seeing one quite like that in my travels.

That is an actual Ford accessory filter, the sort that predated the familiar vertical can on head type. It is a disposable canister, hence very rare. The entire filter was discarded at change, leaving only the lines (one dumps back into hollow pump bolt) and a circular clamp that attached to a head stud. I do not remember for sure, but I think it is an actual FGord accessory for 1936.
As an obsolete disposable, they have almost entirely disappeared from the planet.

I wonder if the owner modified it with a cleanable screen or something to that effect. It wouldn't be very functional or practical if it is a discard item with no replacements available.

I betcha he just plugged its inlet and kept it as close to NOS as possible. I actually have a kit, but stored it away somewhere loooong ago...it was already super rare when I found it 40 years ago. The flex line is rare, the can is rare...I believe from dim memory that it was available as a genuine Ford accessory, and was manufactured by one of the big name filter makers.
