V860 Oil Pan

i have one of the v860 pans , and ill tell ya that its a lot smaller than any regular v8 flathead pan... dont really know about the (early side cover ) OIL PAN....thanks ...kev

The '37-'39 pans are the same for both the tin side block and the solid block. The '40 pan is different from these due to differing rear main bearing seal. Does'nt use a slinger.

The '40 oil pan has a slot for the rope type seal at the back of the pan and the '37-'39 pan has a large semi circle cut out to mate to the bottom of the metal slinger type seal which has a cork gasket for the pan to seal to.

Tony, here are the images that I told you I would send you of the three different oil pans for the V8-60. They show the four quart and five quart pans and the three different oil pickups. The description in the post above of how the 1940 pan differs is correct and also applies.

I have a Genuine Ford cast aluminum pan for a v8/60 & its not from a french simca vedette .
cheers
Tony

Tony, you are absolutely right. Those are from the Ford Vedette, before Ford sold out to Simca. I have one that will go on my '40 engine when I get around to finishing it. Also, the Simca Vedette aluminum crankcase with steel oil pan will bolt up to the '40 block just fine if you use a Simca oil pump or modify the pan. Have one of those too. Nicest piece is the Ford aluminum pan that you refer to.
