V8 60

I found a running v8 60. Just glanced at it because of the other Flathead stuff laying around. Is there any adapter to change over to a small automatic transmission. I bet the 60 would fit in good in my wife's 29 sport coupe. She ca not drive a standard because of a physical disability.

Re: V8 60 Automatic?

That combination probably has not been done very often because the 60 has no power to spare. Another problem is the starter/flywheel issue. The fan would be some distance from the radiator and less effective. If modest performance is not a problem then.. Good Luck Fred A

There are Model A-B adaptor kits for automatic, I think using 6 cylinder Torqueflight because of starter location. There was an article in "Secrets" that could be run down...
The flywheel/starter issue mentioned above: 60 has flywheel considerably smaller than regular 85, with starter location to match. The 60 has most of the same bolt pattern as an 85 and could presumably bolt to flatomatic adaptor, but flywheel and torque converter setup would not fit and would require a mad machinest with lots of time...

Thank you for your come back. Think I will use a v6. My lath and milling machine are not large enough to do that work. M brother has larger equipment . I think I will waller that around in my mind and maby place that on the back burner till I retire and have lots of time.the 29 high boy and the CCab truck will come first.

It's easy to make a Model B engine have 100hp. They make an adapter to put an auto trans to a an A or B engine. You should belong to the Secrets of Speed Socerity. Te Mag you get ever 3 month is priceless. All 4 baggner stuff. Walt

This idea caused me to chuckle: I could just see your '29 sitting there with the V-8 60 running hard but not moving the car-the transmission/torque converter absorbing all of the '60's feeble output.

I know some guys that modify Model T's & A's to the point that the engines will pull the car into the 100 mph plus range. Of course the drive train and suspension has to be modified extensively to keep the vehicle on the road/track. None of the vehicles are used for daily transportation. I also know that nothing is impossible, some things just cost more and take longer.

My brother recently pulled off a neat trick to re-power a sick 4 cylinder car.. He used a Datsun B210 push rod motor and trans which he had rebuilt for next to nothing. He had to use a Toyoto rear end because the Datsun could not be cut down.

To throw people off, he had "Datsun" taken out of the valve cover and painted the engine the correct color (green) for the car.

His wife drives the car around town and to car shows.... Not one person has caught on to the engine swap yet. A few people have commented about the "Zenith" type of carb being a good improvement.

I used an old Capri 4-banger engine with its transmission. It was about the same as the Pinto. Had an overhead cam. I painted it Model A green and had the muffler shop use a new Model A exhaust system. I also had an 8" Ford rear put in to get good ratios. Sounded like an A, looked like a Rajo and ran better than an A. Except for the rear end which can be mounted using catalog parts and some home made front mounts it fit and looked like stock.

I have not had dealings with a 60 flathead. I figured to hop it up. My wife drove dirt track powder puff and some dragsters. She tested a cadillac eldorado and boght it. I rode with her and she had me holding on. First thing she ran it up past 120 mph. So she is a good driver. O yes she drove 18 wheeler for 17 years. IBought a 51 flathead the 1th transmission and all came out of a truck might change to a C4 . I have a rebuilt one.just need the adapter.
