V8 60 water pumps

Just completed a V8 60 install in a stock appearing 26T coupe. Am happy with the results with a 4:1 diff and T-5 ******. Having a real problem solving a leaking water pump. Have trued up the body on a lathe, hand surfaced the rear face of the impeller on 500 crit paper on a glass block, packed the spring and arbor hole with RTV and still get a small amount of water thru the arbor. Am running a 4lb rad cap on a modern radiator--is that pressure perhaps the problem? One pump is fine, the other has been rebuilt several times.

I had to shorten my shafts ever so much to make the impeller seal against the back plate. I was told that if you could see any daylight between the two, they would leak. Mine do not leak any now. Do yours have the rubber bumpers on the front?

I had the exact same problem when I replaced the water pumps on my V8 60 several years ago. Pumps rebuilt correctly with care, one leaked and one was fine. Had the pump out and in several times looking for something wrong, never found anything that would cause the problem. Each time I drove the car it did not leak while running, parked it in the garage motor off, waited 5-10 minutes and it leaked out the front hole. Talking to the gentleman that rebuilt the pump, he suggested running the pump in the car for a longer period of time to see if it would wear in and stop leaking. Somewhere, after 500 miles it slowed, around 1000 miles it stopped leaking. Good ever since.
I bet the pressure cap is not the cause, however, I do think it would cause you to lose more water . One more thing my fan belt is not very tight, new belt, very little pressure on the pumps.
Good Luck!
