Still trying to finish HEBE, my 1933 Summerset hydroplane PODH class with a V8 60. Found a nice aluminum cover plate that plugs the original water pump openings. However now with this plate installed, how is the engine supported in front?
They usually took a section of thick aluminum flat stock and made their own. Follow the contour of the top of the front plate picking up the 4 mount bolts. it was big enough so that you cut out to make vertical legs that went down to the frame and attached there with a short section of aluminum angle that was bolted on the legs.
I'll look in the shop as I had one off a racing engine.
I think this was from a racing boat. Bought several engines out of New Orleans years ago and they used to have a lot of boat racing going on.
Here's one that was cut out for the same front plate you have.
It looks like the mounts could be relocated to the original spacing? I have made new boat mounts to fit the original engine mounts. The old boat mounts were wood bolted to the stringers of the boat.
Yes, There is enough plate on this particular mount at that area the mounts could be re-located. This plate also picks up the lower holes on the Eddie Meyer cover.
Look Close ,it's just dirty. It is 1/4" aluminum plate. My other mount is 3/8 aluminum plate but wasn't cut out for the aluminum Eddie Meyer front cover.
