one of the water pumps on my v8 60 flathead leaks when I am driving it,but when I shut it of it stops and it has been just rebuilt any thoughts

My understanding is that these are hard to rebuild and get just right so they don't leak after rebuilding. I avoided the headache by finding a pair of NOS pumps on eBay. A little pricey but well worth it in the end results.

If you may want to try and find the NOS 52-8510B water pump bearing and other parts to ensure you original quality parts to start with. Try Barnfind08, Fred may have what you need. Also do a search for rebuilding the 60 pump, and see what you can learn. The Fordbarners may post some tips. That way you get the satisfaction of do it yourself.

I rebuilt mine from a kit from VanPelt's. He's on this web site. I was a little leary at first, but not that complicated.

The new plastic impellers leave something to be desired and can sometimes be problematic. The old OEM bakelite types are good as gold. If the sealing surface on the back of the pump body isn't just right, they can leak.
