Does anybody out there have Nov/Dec Issue 1980?? I am looking for the article on Wheels and Tires for a '47 Station Wagon. Thanks for looking!!!

Ken: The V-8 Web Site says Volume 17 Issue 6 1980 Nov/Dec 1980 Page A. I am trying to find the wheel options for a 47 Wagon. I have a wagon with 15" wheels that he original owner claims were optional???? Thanks for your response.....Jack

Jack,

I saw that in the index of articles. Page A is the front cover - there is just a picture there, actually of a Sportsman. There are answers to a couple of questions on '47 Wagons in that issue about tail lights, fenders, and mats, but nothing on tires.

The only information I have about '47 Wagon wheels is from the V-8 Club's '41-'48 Ford Book, which states that standard wheels on the wagon were 600-16, 6-ply and that an option was 650-16, 6 ply. No mention that 15" were an option.

If you don't have it, the 41-48 Book is an excellent reference, available on the Early Ford V-8 Club's website.

I have been told that export models could be had with 18" wheels and also for ground clearance for rougher than normal roads in the states, but have never seen definite proof. what size where the ones on MH 4 wheel drive?

Info from "Famous Ford Woodies" by Lorin Sorensen- Chassis & Equipment for 1946-1948: Ford, 100 HP V8 or 90 HP six. Std. Equip. includes 6.00 X 16 6 ply tires. Mercury, 100 HP V8. Std. Equip. includes 6.50 X 15 6 ply tires.

Didn't find any Marmon stuff, but in 1941 Ford built Type C11ADF British Command Units. These Ford Woodies had right hand drive, the 95 HP Mercury, a heavy duty clutch and a truck 4.11 rear axle mounted on longitudinal springs. Tires were 9.00 X 13 6 ply sand tread, useful for the fight against Rommel in the African desert.

Thanks Fordors for your research..... Several people have told me that if 15" wheels were standard for a Mercury it would have been easy for a Ford dealer to order the wheels as changeovers.......
