I had a 40 pickup driver 19 years-the first 5 years I experienced hard starting, ie more than a few revolutions to start/also extra cranking when truck not used for a week or so

I was told to install the Airtec E8902 6v electric bump delivering 3.5-4.0 PSI

NOTE the pump lists a higher PSI (not true)-see article in Mar/April issue of V8 TIMES page 8!Suggestion?

Remove the push rod (or cut 1" off the top if your worried about oil ?s & leave it in to take advantage of the oil splash shield--oil pressure??

Also Leave the mechanical pump on, mostly for nostalgia looks-not sure it acted as a regulator. Benifits! Easy starting just one or 2 cranks or less

I installed it with a seperate switch not onto ingnition & if I hadnt driven for a while I would turn on the pump--wait seconds for it to fill the Carb & instant startup!

Also was good for the Carb--cause I could shut off the pump & let the Flathead run out of gas for short or winter storage. The starter got less wear & tear the engine more responsive & experienced no problems. The pump was attached to the frame near the gas tank & not loud but you could hear it (listening for it) without the engine running(no radio)

Oh!!

my 36 is getting the same treatment!

I now live in the heat of Florida & love it here (ie) no winter storage downtime

Works for Me
