Can I get some feedback on the various bushes available for the steering column.I've seen 3 types.... Original rubber, Drake rubber/bush or a bearing type. What works the best? I have to order soon.

I have found that the straight rubber ones squeak, and then I got one that had a brass sleeve in it. I have put that in my 34 and its great. I think you could get an ordinary rubber one and put a sleeve in it yourself....

I would go with the bearing and have done that on 32 and my 35;s . Only way to go imho. kc

he there dan i did this job today on a mates 37 sedan there is a comonon wheel barrow bearing that does the job if you want i will get the part number for you it is such a good fit it goes in the flared out bit of the steering colum and coasts abt 2.00 dollars regards scott ps my old 35 has had this bearing in it for ten years it works well by the way what colour you going to paint that 35 tub of yours blue i hope lol

Hi Scott, thanks for the heads up on that bearing. I was wondering about something like that. If you got the number handy that will be great. As for the colour it will be Henry's favorite.... Black!!

I got a bearing from ACE hardware for about $4. The bearing number was BB34 and came out of their drawer Asst # B-6-30. I installed the bearing by sliding it down the shaft until it made full contact with the tube, and then I epoxied it in place onto the tube. There is very little load on the bearing when it is in use, so gluing in place is fine. It works great.

Tractor Supply & others have a bearing for front wheel of lawn tractor/mower that has a lip on it. The bearing slides down the tube until the lip catches. I use silicone caulk/sealer to hold it in place. The sealer can be cut if necessary to remove. Sorry, part # not at hand.

I use a bearing for a garage door lowes or home depot have them is garage door parts. Has a small lip on top so it sits on taper of colum . works great

Thanks guys, I got one today, it's off a toro ride on lawn mower wheel bearing $22 aussie dollars, but perfect fit with a lip so it can't slide down the tube.

I went to Ace and did not see those bearing numbers BB34, most were $15 to $18 though, still made in China
What is the actual od of the steering shaft ( 6665. ? ) I see the Home depot garage bearing any clue on what size etc
I would appreciate any information on this application.
Thanks Barners

Gary I'm not where the car and parts are stored for a day or so but I did find the receipt. Not alot of details on the receipt but the salesman said it was for a Toro ride-on mower. Receipt says TWP110513. If nobody has the od nos posted by the time I get home I'll measure them for you and see if any different number on the bearing.

Gary,

My 36 shaft measures .750" O.D. , seems to be a common size for Ford as my 56 shaft measures the same.
