Upper steering column bearing replacement

I have a '40 coupe with a 65-66 mustang era steering column. Upper bearing is going fast. Wondering if a replacement can be driven in on top of old brg???
Suggestions in lieu of pulling the whole column????

Nope, pull the wheel and attending turn signal stuff and there should be a snap ring (or a spring) holding it in place. Put in new bearing and reverse order.
