Hello everyone! Just wanted to update all who gave me advice about our coupe running poorly. I must have timed that car 10 times! I finally replaced 2 condensers and then replaced the points. New plugs and set the gap on the rotor/distributor It was the points and condenser that made the difference! The points Didnt look bad to me but I had a new set and was running out of steam. If I had to guess it was the condenser!!!! The aggravation
Was worth it when I saw the wife zip by the house with a big smile on her face just a waving and sounding the horn multiple times on her test spin! Now to jump online and order spare parts for the next time! Thank you all so much I’m still learning about these cars and all your advice is much appreciated!

Same thing that happened to me. Condensor went bad which burned the points. New points and condensor and the car is happy. Me too.

That’s for sure friend! What a headache that thing gave me!! Hahaha
Now I know my go to if it happens again. I been hearing their are better condensers out their that don’t fail as much I’d love to get a few of them!

Testing condensers is pretty easy to do and Paul Shinn has a YouTube video that instructs how to do it. Testing them could discover one that is starting to go bad before it gives you trouble.

I have a tip for you.

There are a lot of poor quality points out there that come from China that will cause the exact problem you describe. Buy points from one of the major suppliers as well as the good quality "Burn Proof" condensers. Actually, I buy points from O'Reilly's Auto Parts. They have a listing. They come in a Borg-Warner or Standard Ignition box. Both made by the same company. They are made in Mexico but are good quality.

Wow awesome advice thank you! I will get better points and definitely keep an eye on them with my multi meter. Going to add a test light to all the cars took kits as well. Thanks a million everyone!
