Update on my 37 Ford - HELP!!!

Does the car have two big anti-chatter rods bolted to the bellhousing? If so, these will ground it.

Where does the ground from the battery attach to?

Mart.

Hi there: Usually there is a ground strap from the frame to a head bolt. Most of the time it is located above the starter. It is a flat strap, used for grounding only. Be sure to scratch the frame to get a good ground there and then go over to the engine, remove a lower head bolt and put the end of the strap there. I'll bet that will make a big difference. Good luck, and don't give up.

Where is the ground between the motor and the frame located??
Tom
You are never going to get the car fixed until you stop jumping from one thing to the other. First check out the starter. Do you have a good set of jumper cables? (6 volt heavy, not 12v). With the battery on the floor, hook one cable from the battery to the starter post, then hook the other cable to the battery and touch the other end to the engine somewhere (head, block, etc) If the engine turns over good, the you have a poor GROUND between the battery and the frame(engine). When you have fixed this problem go to why it runs poor.

To find the engine ground strap your going to have to look for it. It is usually bare (no insulation) heave duty flat battery cable. It may be from the frame to bolts that attach the starter motor, transmission, or the firewall to the RH engine head stud. Since your car is not original but has several modifications, it is hard to tell where it may be. If you do not find it I would suggest you look in the Early Ford V8 Club restoration book for it's proper location and place one there. Page 5-15 shows the battery + being connected to the firewall on the RH side of the battery, and from what appears the bolts that mount the solenoid to the firewall to an engine head stud.
It is also a big help from you, if you can learn how to post photos with your questions, each is worth a thousand words! Go to the search button on the top of the page.
