Unusual Fuel Guage?

I came across this fuel guage the other day while looking for something in my spare parts. I don't recall ever seeing a locating tab before on a Model A fuel guage. The guage looks the same in every other way. The brass pivot pin is a press fit in the arm, so it doesn't have a cotter pin and ends flush with each outer support.

Has anyone seen a locating tab on a fuel guage, or does anyone know the time period it might have been used? Thanks

I found one like it on a late 31 tank. Unfortunately the center part had been destroyed.

Tom: I have one as a spare but I can't recall as to where it came from or what period it belongs to. I really enjoy that one quote by a member "I know more than I can remember"! Gar Williams

Why do I feel like this was recently covered by Pluck in one of his M.A.N. articles on gas tanks and the associated items?

You guys must not be reading Model A News!

OK...Here is the scoop on the tab. If you were to read the Ford Service Bulletin for April 1931, page 555, it explains it all.

If you do not have a copy of the FSB's, go to my site and look up the article. There it explains the tab issue.
