Unusual frame number

Hi all,

Looking at buying a truck frame, and the buyer isn't sure which year it's from. I asked him to get me the number off the frame, and he came back with this:

99C638944

This has the stars before and after the number, so I assume it's a genuine Ford number. But on Mac's site, the only series I was able to find starting with 99 was 99A. Nothing for a 99C.

The seller mentioned that the previous owner referred to the frame as a "45." Is it possible this was a military vehicle?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Nick

On 99C the "C" should be for commercial but may also be a Canadian thing. I can't tell you for absolute certainty. That number is lower than the begining numbers for 1946 production so it sure could be a 1945. Ford made trucks all through the war and most were for military but in the later part of 1945 they were starting to let them out into the civilian market again even before VJ day. I've seen quite a few Ford & Chevrolet "1945" trucks & pick ups.
