Unusual Exhaust Manifold

Anybody know anything about this exhaust manifold? I assume it's after-market. The cast part is interesting - no doubt the dip in the middle is to access the condenser and distributor hold-down. But what's up with the sheet metal cover? Heat shield? Cooling scoop? What?

Also any clue what that thing is sticking in the wiper port on the intake?

That is a strange looking manifold.. The missing rear portion of the shield should go to the hole in the firewall..

HI: I would send the pic to Steve Becker at Bert's Model A Center in Denver he can tell u what u have. He sells Model a part's and has a bone yard out their of Original part's and would know what u have. But Tom is correct on the manifold it's a heater manifold and y r missing the part that goes to the car and the other thing that is in the vacuum port don't have a clue I would send the pic to Steve and he can tell u for sure what all of it is for sure. Steve's phone # and e-mail address is 1-800-321-1931 and the e-mail is parts@modelastore.com or u can send it to him on here his user name is Steve b. Good luck let me know what u find out I would like to know as to what that is myself as I have never seen one of those thing's myself. Thanks reggiedog

I have the same complete manifold on my 31 slant window. you are missing the back section and the air tube that goes thru the firewall. I have never seen another one like it.

I'm wondering if there isn't a small cover over the dip in the center that is also missing?

OK, just to be clear, it isn't mine. It's on a 29 Tudor for sale at Rufus Ranch - they say the car was stored for 50 years. Anyway, I was just curious about the manifold as I had never seen one like it. I thought it might be a heater since there's an inlet on the firewall. But the sheet metal cover looks like it fits too tight to allow much air flow - course the missing part may compensate for that.

Very large plug to cap off port.:)

Well, yeah - just wondered exactly WHAT it is ;)

Is that thing on the intake perhaps just a carriage bolt that someone bodged into the 1/8 pipe hole to plug it??

Yup - think you're right

Or it's covered by the missing piece?

Thanx to all for the info.
