I have never seen anything like this. guy claims this is a 50. factory option.

I say BS. any comments?

??? I'm just seeing a 38-29 Special Coupe. What's different about that one? While I'm not big on the 28-29's,the Special Coupe is the best looking Coupe to me.It was Henry's favorite too.

The original Special Coupe was built especially for Henry Ford to run around the Rouge Plant. Then in 1928 someone decided to market the Special Coupe as Model 49A. It was discontinued in 1929.

speaking of unusual tops, here is a pickup from 1987's untouchables. looks like someone put a leather top on a pickup. I know they didnt have leather tops like this so is this a custom job?

I have seen "modern" cars with vinyl roofs where there weren't any originally. Cheaper to glue a coat of vinyl on than to repaint.

The first thing that caught my eye was the use of Roadster Top Rests on a Coupe.

That was very commonly done years ago, some still do it now.I added them to a Coupe I had in the 70's.Repros were something like $9.per pair from J.C.Whitney.

The Special Coupe had a wood top structure with the sheet metal tacked on. The basic body is the same as the Sport and Business Coupes with different top treatments. The Standard Coupe had more solid metal in it's construction and I think that's why it came back in late 29. All of the softer top coupes had the rear belt trim pieces to cover the fabric installation back there. A good belt rail trim set is few and far between.
