Unrestored Model ’A’s

Re: Unrestored Model ’A’s

These original cars are truly gems. An amazing amount of care must have went into preserving these cars for so many years.
Thanks for sharing.
care is part of the equation, but dumb luck sometimes helps.
our Coupe was parked and not driven from 1937-77 and then owned from 1984-2003 by a gentleman who drove it less than 1000 miles total.

Re: Unrestored Model ’A’s

I saved this one from a long sleep of 50 years. All ford but after 5 years and over 10,000 miles the paint and top are getting real bad. If I wont to keep the car and still drive it I will have to do the paint next winter

Before you destroy that original paint, try an application of GIBBS OIL. It will bring out paint that you did not know was there.
Antique, barn-find motorcycles are done this way. WD-40 will almost do it. But, not as well and it won't last as long. But you can test it and get an idea.

I use lots of W-D
that paint is really starting to come off and the small little pits are getting deeper with rust. It looks real nice from 20 feet with the right light.
I love driving this thing. And if it rains when I am out. It gets wet
I bring it home blow dry and more W-D
I had it almost 2 years before it got wet for the first time and washed off all the barn dust.

Re: Unrestored Model ’A’s

I LOVE these unrestored cars !
When I take mine to car-shows, etc., people walk right past the $100,000.00 re-builds and gawk all over mine. I get a real chuckle out of that ! I'm so bad !

Hereis a nice unrestored original 29 Tudor.Enjoy Phil Turner, Berts, Denver

Phil,

Do you have access to this car, or contact with the owner? I sure would like to have a close-up picture of the vertical stripe spear behind the rear quarters.

It's amazing that these Model As have, not only survived, but have endured and remained in good condition all these years. What a treat to see them!

Re: Unrestored Model ’A’s

Unrestored eh? My $400 1931 Ford late bed bought in 1967.

At the time of purchase it was pink inside and out, top to bottom, radiator to tailgate and it had one wheel brakes.

Re: Unrestored Model ’A’s

My wife and I watch the Antique Road Show on PBS. Occasionally, someone brings in a piece of furniture that was cleaned and/or restored, ruining the original patina. This affects the value greatly. In your opinion, do you see untouched, Model ‘A’s, being worth more than restored cars in the future?

Re: Unrestored Model ’A’s

A high point unrestored car can bring double the price of a fully restored car of the same make and model. I have seen it happen a few times recently in auctions. At Hershey a couple of years ago, there was an unrestored 1910 Oldsmobile limited (I think it was?) that sold for $1.3 million or roughly twice the price of the fully restored examples recently sold of that same make and model.
