U joint special tabbed washer

I received a new U joint (mfg by Bob Drake reproductions) from Brattons but it has a captive cupped washer with no tab where the special tabbed front knuckle retainer washer should go. It looks like the tabbed washer diameter is too big even if the U joint was taken apart. How important is the tab on the retainer washer. Service Bulletins say the tab must go down between the splines. There is a 9/16" bolt and split lock washer that fastens the U jount to the transmission main shaft.

ted,
my opinion... cupped and tabed to preclude losening due to vibration, thus important for long run and piece of mind!!
