U-Joint lubrication

I am about to put the rear end in my 35 and I would like some help on how to lube the u-joint. The books I have don't really say anything, so I was going to pack it in grease, and shoot some grease in the zerk after I get it together. That said, what should I do? Thanks

Do a search here and on the model A site, covered just recently. Lots of fellows pack the area first with grease, then pump in thru the zerk until you see it just coming out of the speedo drive hole.

I use straight 140 . If your driveshaft seal is good & you do a good job on the bell gaskets just put 4 ounces in through the speedo gear hole . DO NOT OVERFILL this . Your ****** will let enough in to make up for the little bit lost through the wiping action of the felt-cork . Second choice would be " 00 " viscosity fluid gear grease - lithium based . Third choice would be " 0 " viscosity cornhead grease - urea based . Pumping it full of chassis grease is probably the worst choice . Do a search on this . This subject has been beat to death MANY times .

Yep. Chassis grease just forms cavities around the universal. That said, there are plenty of fellows who've used nothing else and their universals are still going strong after decades, so I dunno. I guess enough oil seeps through the ****** rear bearing to keep the grease a bit more viscous. I'm using Penrite Steering Box lube in mine. It has a treacle-like consistency.
