Tom: This topic has been fought over for quite a while. In the black band at the top of the page go to search and then type in your question. You will see plenty of opinions. Read them all and then make your choice. Better yet, go talk to some model A guys you know. Cheers, Bill

Thanks Bill!

There is one fact you should keep in mind, "The worst oil of today is better than the best oil of 1930!" You can't go wrong with Rotella, or Castrol, or Mobil, or whatever is on sale at Walmarts this week. These engines don't require exotic oil.

ever time i see some one using non dertergent oil in there engines i just shake my head, that oil has absolutely nothing in it to protect your engine, absolutlely nothing, all that oil is good for is oiling bicyle chains, and i would even be leery of that

Not to start up controversy, but, did you know that all the diesel oils were re-formulated in late '06?
For instance, the Rotella oil now with the yellow banner on the bottle doesn't have the same additive package as before.

Just curious.

Make sure the oil has the additives for use in engines with flat tappets,I had to replace my A engine because the bottom of the tappets were worn paper thin and the engine was full of metallic particles.

Olive Oil... :) I actually changed my oil on my model A for the first time last week (I've had the car only 5 weeks). I put in 10 W30 Mobile mobil 1 synthetic --walmart had a 5 Qt jug for ~$25 which is not that much more than the non-synthetic oils (maybe $7-8 bucks more) ... I'll drop it after 500 miles. I'm too new to my car and model As to speculate on if the car runs smoother or cooler now... I'm still learning... but it seems fine...
