I've got a Marvel "Rayfield" on my coupe. It came on the car, so I took it apart and took all the jets out, cleaned everything real well, the float needle (steel) was leaking a little, so I tapped it gently with a small hammer as I turned it. Put it back together, adjusted it, no more leaks, and it runs great.
Does anybody know anything about these carbs? I've never heard anybody talk about them. I'm sure it is a replacement for the stock carb, because everything hooks up to it, and it still has the adjustment rod inside the car. As I said it works real well. Now if I could just get it to stop sounding like someone dumped a hand full of nuts and bolts in the motor, I'd be a lot happier. Anybody know whats up with that? It dosen't sound like mains or rods.

Thanks,
Stan

With what I've seen of 'previously owned' model A's, I wouldn't dismiss it as a possibility. :p

The original Zenith 1 that came with the car. It runs great. Had a Tilly on my pick up. It was very good. Plan to stay with the Zenith 1 as that's the way it came from the factory.

Dual Strombergs on the Coupe! Just adjusted the floats last night.

Stan, start with a new post. Until then I would check the timing gear. Had the same noise and the fiber gear was all chewed up.

I, like several others, run different carbs on different cars for different reasons.

the 28 Pickup which is almost original has a Zenith Double Venturi. Beautiful and ssmooth slow idle but limited top speed.

Miz Mibble the 31 Coupe has a Zenith 2. Dependable and adjustable and very good performance.

The 28 Speedster has a Weber with Weber downdraft. Performs just like I want it and better leave it alone since we have a race next Wednesday.

The newest allocade a 31 S/W, that got all legal and road worthy this week, but not finished, currently has a Zenith 2. pretty goood performance. The Zenith 2 is for performance evaluations and a base line. She will later get a Weber with Weber downdraft or Holly 94 with Scalded Dog Downdraft or maybe something else.

I have one of the new Zenith fork truck carbs on my 30' Tudor & it really improved the performance, very happy with it, best $200 I ever spent on my A. My only complaint would be that it only gets about 14 to 15 mpg but performance is worth the few mpg to me.

Model B On one and original Zenith 1 on the other. Both work fine Still leak if I leave the tap on though despite trying every float valve in existence

Predicated on 'no such thing as a dumb question'...

Q about Zenith Carbs.

How do you know if it's a type #1 or #2 carb?
I can read Zenith on the casting but not which one...
dumb as a box of rocks, a too lazy to dig this one out.

skip.

I had run the Tilly that was on the Roadster when I aquired it.
Ran without a hitch and easy to fine-tune.......that is, until it warped.
I kept on thinking the whistling squeal was coming from the distributor, until I put a stethescope on it.
Currently running Zenith 2.
