Two more questions....

1) can anyone help with the assembly order for the fuel gauge, and do the gaskets need sealer?
2) can anyone provide a pic of the door latch striker plate sitting in its recess (28 tudor)? Ive put a new latch and striker plate on but have about 3/8" of "door slop". I must be doing something wrong :o
Many thanks. Marty.

Hi Marty.
I can email you a drawing of the gas gauge assembly if required. It is important that the cork gasket goes to the back against the tank. Clean out the ridges on the tank itself and the back of the gauge where the two meet. I have seen the brass rings there, but the cork gasket always seals well. You must have the correct tools. For the small gauge inner nut use a piece of 1" square bar. If you purchase a repro gasket kit there always seems to be too many gaskets compared to what came out. I have just dismantled a gas gauge from a very original tank from a Town Sedan. It still has it's original Thorn Brown paint and pinstripe in good order. The tank is in perfect condition. The gauge may have been replaced sometime in it's life, but I have no way of knowing for sure. Pictures attached.
For a sealer, I have tried all the expensive gas tank sealers with dismal results. By far the best is "Golden Syrup" or Treacle to our American and Canadian friends. Use very sparingly and it works very well. The gauge can be removed any time in the future quite easily. The hardest part of the whole operation is sneaking some out of the kitchen.
Can't help with the door problem sorry. I don't have any pics to show you.
I can supply my email if you wish to correspond. I live in Canterbury.

Hi Marty, these are pics of my coupe, the latch setup is the same as your Tudor.

Cheers

Great stuff, thank you gentlemen. Bick, your striker plate sits further out than mine, is there a spacer plate in behind the striker plate? Looks like my striker is sitting about 1/4" too far into the recess.
Eatonaxle, great tip on the syrup!

Aha! Thanks Bick. Looks like I'll have to make a spacer plate out of some 1/8" scrap, and file the holes longer to get the plate into the right position.
BTW: I should mention this body was a complete piece of trash when I got it, rust to Africa and lying on its side forever. It had been stripped of everything useful, hence my needing information.
