My wife and I went to the Greensboro Classic Car Auction in Greensboro, NC today. Ted Vernon from South Beach Classic was there with a film crew. We had seen him from a distance (we were in the back and he was up front at the auction podium). My wife said she would like to have her picture made with Ted...I just ignored her. So we are looking at this 1952 Marmon Herrington 4x4 Ford F3 and around the front of the truck comes Ted with his camera man. The wife grabs him and asks to take a picture with him. I dig out the iphone and snap away. I'm sure we ruined whatever his camera man was filming but he was as nice as could be. He asked for a kiss on the cheek from my wife. I shook hands and thanked him after the photo and we got out of the way. The F3 sold but I don't know the final sales price. GAA said they had new software and the selling price was not showing, but the highest bid on reserve vehicles did show.
If I had a bidder's number and a pocket full of cash I would love to have taken this '38 home, a former AACA award winner and still looking good. The high bid was $16,000 but it did not meet the reserve.
