Turn Signals

Unless you have actually seen one, I think that's an assumption that has to be checked out. From what I've read here, this guy has genuine '52 Ford that came from the factory without turn signals, and unless you've seen one in the flesh before, blanket statements aren't a good idea.

Let's see what he actually finds.

The 52 owner found exactly what I said, a two filament bulb. No assumption on my part. The two filament bulb is for the tail lamps and the stop lights. Turn signals use the stop lamp filaments whether or not the car came with turn signals.

I started working on my turn signals. I want to use my taillights and parking lamps but when I turn on the headlights the parking lamps go off. Would I use the other wire going into the socket for my blinkers. Everything has two filament bulbs Thanks, Tom....

Yes, you should use the other wire that goes to the parking light socket for the turn signals. It should be the brighter of the two filaments. You also want to use the same filament as the brake lights in the rear for the turn signals for the same reason.

When I added turn signals to my 1949, I had to find the two wire front parking lot sockets.
Then, the extra wire need to connect to was in the wire harness. Somethings just work out.
I am using the steering sector clamp on assembly. Oh, yeah, back in the day Ford was planning on dealer installed turn signals, because the light sockets and bulbs were already in the dash instrument assembly.

Signal lights were still optional equipment here in Canada in 52. My 52 Merc has the little arrow indicators in the dash but no lever on the steering column. The 53 parts car has the identical dash and it does have the factory signal light lever with, I assume, all the necessary parts for working signal lights.
