Tudor windshield weatherstripping replacement

Sad news, I cannot find my Les Andrews book, which would tell me how to do this simple job, will look some more today for it.

I bought new weather stripping for the windshield frame of my 1928 Tudor. The new weather stripping is one length and will need to be cut to length. My understanding is that it only goes on the two sides and the bottom.

The presently installed weather stripping is brittle, pieces broken off.

When I install the new stripping, I will use some water soluble gel, used for running electrical cable through conduit instead of liquid dish soap. It is more slippery and cleans up better.

My question is about the length of the weather stripping. Do they overlap with a straight cut or cut at an angle at the corners?

Is there anything I should know regarding the installation of the new weather stripping, any information is much appreciated.

Thank you,

JR

I over lapped mine and cut it at a 45 degrees then took locktite rubber adhesive and glued it together ..looks good not sure if it is the way it was done originally

The way '30 Ford said is the right way but allow the rubber to relax overnite before cutting. The rubber will shrink after being pulled into the channels.

Let it relax a couple of days - and thermal cycle in the sun. And trim it to size when it cools off.

Thank you Joe K. The weathstripping/seal is one piece for all three sides. Will measure and making sure I overlap each end.

Just replaced the water pump and four blade fan with a new leakless maintenance free water pump and two-blade aluminum fan.

Next, going raise the car up on the hoist and install new repop splash pans. Going to give the paint a couple of days to dry.

Still trying to find my Les Andrews book!
