Tudor front seats

What's the best fix for front seats that feels like you're seating on an oversize basketball. I rock from side to side while traveling. Do I need new springs or is there some kind of fix for the original ones. They seem to have plenty of spring in them. Maybe I could put some foam in there to firm them up.

Carefully remove the upholstery so you can replace it. Then analyze the stuffing to determine what’s causing the trouble. Buy some new stuffing and lay it in in a comfortable shape. Reinstall the upholstery making sure the cloth is fitting smoothly. Pull it firmly into place.

Tiny tip: You don’t have to buy expensive upholstery fabrics or kits. There are other sources. The first time I redid my Tudor front seats i went to a wrecking yard, found a car with a good cloth front bench seat for $25, got everything I needed when I stripped it down.

Firm up the outer ones only. My wife hates the seats in our Tudor for the reasons you describe. It's not so bad for the driver with the steering wheel to hold onto but the passenger is a different story. I say that we sit ON those seats, not IN them. I fixed it by swapping them out for 1950s Morris minor seats. They are light years ahead of ford's effort and fold and roll the same. The early seats are better because the later ones are wider in the backrest and don't fold as far forward as they could.
Another option might be a block of high density foam carved to shape instead of springs. IMO, the problem is not only the seat but the backrest as well. I'd try the same changes there too.

I bought new springs From Snyders and still had the same problem .I took my lower cushions back apart and cut and installed foam in every spring. Its way more stable and a lot more comfortable .I also have a piece of automotive carpet on top of the spring under the upholstery.I have back issues having worked on cars my whole career and now 70 plus years old.I can now at-least drive it for a couple of hours without a bunch of pain.
I can’t tell you what density the foam is because believe it or not it is foam that surrounded the edge of a sleep number bed .Im not a small guy ,5 foot 8 and 220 lbs.For me it has worked well . Dennis

I have packed upholstery cotton in each spring coil and hog ringed jute back carpet to the top of the springs (with the Jute on top side. Then I put the foam and cloth on top. Nice solid seats with no marshmallow feel.

I always thought that some day I would like to cut a fordor front seat in half, and upholster it as two. Then use tudor mountings so the passenger side could flip forward just a little bit. No one is getting in the back of my car these days...

Someone could make a pretty penny making up seats like this. JMHO
