TT roof info needed

I/2 the roof covering is gone now. Under the fabric seems to be Tar-paper/roofing paper. I have Top material to install,and a couple of slats need replacing. What should I put between the Top and the wood slats?
Roofing paper? And...it there a way to Fade the Top to make it look aged?

I dont know what the underlayment is, but try some Wesleys tire bleach on the vinyl (on a small spot first!) maybe even dilute it and brush with the grain... ws

Just go to the fabric store and get some black muslin material.
