Trying to hide the 351 again

Black valve covers are on and still need to figure out what type of oil cap I am going to use,I have a mid 70s version but going to check a local junkyard for the larger mid to late 60s versions or ones from a older large truck. I wish i could have centered the decals but I would had to done some cutting and then would not had the Y block look.

Sure-

Closed rocker covers had no provision to add oil or a breather. The early SBF had rocker covers with no oil fill caps and oil was introduced through a filler tube in the front cover. The PCV System (or road draft) was contained within the intake manifold. Of course, the early PCV System was only made for the 221/260/289. A 351W intake would have to be modified to accept an early style PCV System.

the early 260/289 cover were avalible in chrome from the factory. oem, although probably not the "look" you are after.

Just a thought... will a Y-Block valve cover fit over the top of a SBF cover? With a little "persuasion" of course. Then weld a couple of stud on the SBF cover to pass thru the grommets on the Y-Block cover?

Then get the early front cover for oil fill.

And as long as I'm spending your money, get a crank trigger ignition and yank the distributor.

Heck even better, use the hole left over from the distributor to add oil.

Just my 1¢ worth of thought for this morning...

An EDELBROCK AIR-GAP intake will offer even more confusion-

I know you are looking for a Yblock look but here is a picture of pentroof FE/windsor valve covers I have on my windsor.

IMG_0347.jpg

What you are after is some valve cover adapters to fit a Yblock valve cover on a sbf.

I thought about the FE valve covers and would have tried to put Y block valve covers on it but no place to put oil in or a place for a pcv.

The early 260's, 289's had valve covers with no holes in them. I assume this is what he means by "closed" Oil was put in via an intake tube.

Later 289's and 302's had covers with either PCV or oil fill holes.

You lost me. What is meant by "open" or "closed" rocker covers. I'm not familiar with that terminology.

A friend of mine has a 56 Bird with a 302 in it. He painted the valve covers black and put the YBlock decals on them. Block was painted Ford red. Unless you know YBlocks, you would think it was stock, as the swap was very nicely done.

FYI, the latest Rod & Custom has an article about making T bird cast covers fit on a Windsor head.

I started reading about that and it looks like more work then I would want to do and I dont have the equipment to make the parts needed.

fordsbyjay,,, where did you find the FE style 427 covers for the windsor engine in the pic you posted? I've looked for some such as those, with no luck. I found one artical that mentioned a company named ( PAW ), but that was a dead end also.

Thanks, BB

PAW= Performance Automotive Warehouse. Used to be a Big performance retailer, i.e. Summit or Jeg's. Don't know if they're still around.

I'd love to disguise the SBF in my '55 Victoria to look like a Y-block and raise some eyebrows at a Crown Victoria ***'n meet, but the Cobra finned covers with black-crinkle paint I have on it are a look I just can't abandon.

Y-Blockhead, thanks for the reply about the FE 427covers for windsor.
When looking for (PAW), site read they only sell on eba- now. Course there weren't any valve covers like those advertised for sale.

I did find some @ Performance Unlimited, finned, 5 and 1/2 tall, and cobra lettering, somewhat like the 427 ones pictured. Lettering was kinda small I thought. But gosh their pricy. $400. Heavy too, think they were 7 lbs each. Maybe that's typical weight for ones that size. Anyway, this maybe the route I have to take. I'll keep looking for a couple more days.

Thanks again,
Brett
