trying to do the avatar thing

Your Current Avatar Avatars are small graphics that are displayed under your username whenever you post.
Do not use an avatar
Note: if you have a custom avatar selecting this option will delete it.

Custom AvatarIf you have a custom avatar and want to keep it as it is, leave the fields below as they are.

Use Custom Avatar

You may upload a new custom image using the controls below.

Option 1 - Enter the URL to the Image on Another Website
Option 2 - Upload Image From Your Computer
Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 160 by 160 pixels or 19.5 KB (whichever is smaller).

Cliff if you're taking a picture from your PC use option two. Hit the browse button , find the picture and upload it. Make sure that the picture is not too large. You can do that by right clicking the mouse on the picture and hit properties. I can't help you if your taking it from a web site. Never did that. Maybe someone else can explain it better than I.

I think this is the one thing that throws the most folks off. If its bigger than this it will hae to be put into Photoshop (or a similar program) and resized. If you don't have the ability to do that yourself, you're welcome to email me the photo and I'll shrink it for you.

yes Deron and now i don't know how to get the size while i have it on the screen. boy i am really feeling dumb on this one.

Cliff,

What kind of operating system are you using? If you have Windows XP you can hover your mouse on top of a photo file and it will pop up a window telling the dimensions, size and filetype (assuming you have the folder view style set to show thumbnails). If that doesn't work you can single-click the photo file (not double click to open it) and there is a box down the left side of the screen called "details" that will show the size too. Have I confused you yet...

Newer versions of Windows are probably about the same, but if you're using a Mac then I have no clue what to tell you.

If you still have troubles, just click on my name and send me a PM with the photo attached and I'll send it back to you tonight.

Deron i do not think i am confused and i do have xp and my pic's are in thumbnail, i will give it a try later and contact you or if it works it will show up on my next post i hope, thanks Cliff

I've been holding off on posting anything because of my computer illiteracy.. I too had a heck of a time figuring this out.. I couldn't do it from 'my pictures' or 'photostash'.. Without the help from Tom W , Skip and Hoarse Whisperer I could not have done it, but, it had to be done from 'photobucket' then 'user cp' on this board.. I finally got it to work, but, I'm not sure I could do it again..

Ciff, I've been pondering why I could reduce the image size in my PC using XP By right clicking on the mouse when I put the curser over the picture and you can not.
Well it just hit me. I down loaded from Microsoft a small program called
"Image Resizer Powertoy for windows XP".
Maybe you can go to Microsoft and get the same program.
Just a suggestion for you and anyone else that can use it.
Good Luck
