Trunk Lid install?

OK, How do you install the hinges on a T coupe trunk lid? I tried everything I can think of short of unbolting the body section below or above the trunk - way too tight to get the lid in with the hinges in place on the body or the deck lid oe even with just one hinge installed. Is there some secret trick here or do I need to start removing bolts along the body seams?
 
slide the lid in from the back, ( seats need to be out, and package tray out, ) past the the back of the body, put in both hinges, slide lid back toward the corect postion, and turn hinges so the bolts line up, the hinge holes are slotted to adjust your lid, this is on a 26 27 , i think thats what your talking about
