Truck tail gate

i have found an old tail gate in a ford dealership that was demolished . Can anyone tell me about it 47 wide and 14-1/2 tall it has three hindge points on the bottom.Embossed ford logo.

It sounds like from the description that he has a '35-'36 or possibly a '37 tailgate. Beds up through '41 were 46" inside width. '42 and later beds were 3" wider. They started making them wider because more building materials were being produced in 4' x 8' sheets. A sheet of plywood or paneling can lay flat in a '42 or later bed.

So you’re telling me my mystery tailgate might predate plywood sheets... that’s wild.
