Truck door and window escutcheons

I installed a fiberboard door panel on my 36 truck and have reproduction handles and escutcheons. The escutcheons have teeth to stick into the panel. are these designed to have a spring behind the panel? If so, can I use the universal escutcheon with a built in spring (sold by Macs & others) instead?

I've used the spring loader escutcheons on many cars. I like the fact that if they accidentally spin with the handle they don't tear up the upholstery.

I followed Krylon32's advice and ordered the spring loaded escutcheons from C&G, along with springs for the ones I have, to give me another option. C&G called today to be sure I wanted the springs, since the escutcheons ordered are spring loaded. Nice customer service.
