Trophies

My $0.02 worth: the trophy represents the work that went into making the car the condition it was on the day of judging. The car itself didn't put in the effort, the owner did (whether he hired it out or not). So the trophies should by default stay with the seller unless he wishes to transfer them. And "trophy winning" is highly variable depending upon the rigor of the judging and frankly whether the judges know anything about the car. I'd be much more inclined to put weight on a MARC/MAFCA judging than the judging that comes from the downtown car show on July 4.

Same thing about paper records. I keep meticulous maintenance records of all my cars, modern and vintage/antique. I'm happy to show a potential buyer the records but I keep them when I sell a vehicle. They are notes that I made to myself. Same as your medical records - you can view them, maybe get copies, but the originals stay with your health care provider.

A friend drove vintage races in a Cobra and TransAm car. Whenever they won the owner had a duplicate trophy made for him. Not being a fan of "stuff" he kept them in his garage and tossed them when he moved.

Bob, definitely a controversial topic. Coming from a professional who participated in the ISCA show car world back in the early 1980s (some pics below of me and one of the show cars I built some 40+ years ago), I have seen this topic debated several times. I think the consensus was did winning the award add value to the vehicle? If so, they go with the vehicle to corroborate the pedigree the vehicle has.

For example, if a vehicle won Grande Champion in a competition series, part of the value of that sale is that the vehicle has a pedigree. Alternatively, Ricky Stenhouse won the Daytona 500 with his Camaro however he keeps the trophy however the vehicle will sit at the museum for a year. In that series (-and most competition series) the trophy is awarded to the person and not the vehicle. So in reality, the trophies on most levels are just tokens and do not really add value to the vehicle. Therefore those generally remain with the owner unless the sale of the vehicle is negotiated where the trophy, -or trophies remains with the vehicle.

Sorry to get off the topic but Lol
! I just found some pictures of myself from the 80s with a mustache, short OP pants, and rolled up short sleeves. Also, yesterday I was going through my parents garage to get ready to sale and I found my members only jacket. Gotta love the 80s.
