trip away in our A

Wombats can live around 5-15 years in the wild and can reach up to 20 years in captivity, displaying unique behaviors and social structures while primarily being nocturnal and solitary.

Wombats are known to take your sump out when you hit them. Tough little critters, they can bulldoze their way through fences. At night they just look like a black shadow on the road, so are difficult to see.
The guy that photographed this one lives locally. Note his story about the wombat walking straight through him.

A lot of pictures that come up would leave one with the impression that they are fairly small, and they are until they start to grow.
The highway sign is an appropriate warning!!!

I had to have camel meat to try to grill. I went to a Minneapolis halal grocery and bought some. It was frozen and was a commercial product from Australia. I found out that it can only be stewed, very tough!

We have been out of service the last couple of days, hence no updates.
After a few nights at Ceduna where i changed the flat trye from the camper, where the valve stem had pulled out,
I walked over to the hardware store to get some fly screen material to make a cover for the radiator ,as we had been warned about the locusts further on, also I bought a set of ear muffs to shut out the wind noise in the can of my pickup, not taking my glasses i bought the most expensive ones thinking the would be the best,on opening the box back at th e camper we find they have wifi capability, wow, imagine what sort of a mess i could get into with them .
they turned out to be great at shutting out the noise in the cab and have now worn them for two days ,im impressed.
We also had a bit of trouble with the UHF in cheryls car, turned out to be a little wire broken off inside , so i will try to fix it tomorrow.the UHF is a must to communicate between use and the trucks ,
We caught up with a wide load yesterday that had a hug piece of equipment on board.
The pilot car at the rear gave a running commentary when to pass ,he told me to pass , but as i pulled put I told him I was gun shy as he waved me past on a blind curve ,so i pulled back in telling him i was gun shy about passing there, he told me the pilot in from had as he called it ,shut the door on the coming traffic for me to pass.i got a partial pic as i passed.
As usual, the wheat was sure impressive,i stopped and took some picks close up.
Both cars are going great,Cheryls has a small oil leak but after two full days of travel is still on the full mark,so will keep an eye on it, ( i check both cars ever morning before departing as well as lubing the distrutors.)
We stopped for the night at Kimba for the night (we stopped hear on the way over) , there was the biggest 5th wheeler we have ever seen and his mate came along in another huge caravan and parked next to us, we were a bit peved , but later appreciated it as it formed a wind break for the ver present wind in this part of the country.
Today we had maybe our shorted drive of only 280 klms, so had plenty of time at both smoko and lunch stops.
Quite a few swarms of locusts today
We have been travelling with another couple in their 28 tudor , they are from melbourne so will leave us on wednesday morning, they are great company, freinds from 2004.they are in the brown one in the pics.
There is a fairly long steep hill that we took from Port Augusta to get us to Peterborough, all three old rockets got over it in top gear, and never got hotter than 85 c,a good effort.
We are now camped in peterborough for two nights ,so will take a walk around town and have a toasted sandwich and cappuccino in town tomorrow.
Also some better pictures of the old truck in Iron Knob this morning
