Great days drive today.big day 437 ks, but another time change threw us a curve ball and we had an easier time as we had an extra 1/2 hr.
We left Cocklebiddy after having toast and jam for breakfast as the quarantine took our freah fruit away, after fueling up at 3.16 ltr,no drama really as we were told to expect $4 ltr,
met another guy on a push bike,I asked him about the large rear hub on his bike, 14 speed, my mate back in gladstone brother designed and made them in germay back in the early 80,s,
thats it he said , its bullet proof, been all around australia on it,no drama.
We headed off along the longest straight road in the country at 90 miles dead straight no ups or down even, and lovely to have a slight tail wind that made for easy driving.
Stopping for morning tea break i changed the oils and filters on both cars while Cheryl made coffee , I had packed a service kit for the trip but bought the wrong oil filter for Cheryls A, so had to leave it on and just change the oil.
I was very good and took the empty oil containers, used filter and dirty rags and gloves away with me in a large rubish bags I had bought from home.
With the 90 mile straight it was very easy for trucks and roadtrains to,pass as you could see miles down the road .
I got a bit nevous when all the devils numbers came up,on the speed today
We saw our first rel wide load also this morning.
We are now in Norseman for two nights,
We had come across the nullarbor in three great days, beaut days 1179 ks.

Rest day today in Norseman, did a big load of washing,as we were running out of clean clothes.
Norseman has a big gold mining operation that produes 24,520 ounces ,the broader resource sits sits at a massive 4.7 million ounces, and the mine will continue for decades to come.
Went for a walk up town and got some groceries and stuff for dinner tonight and tomorrow night, as after that we will be in Albany for a week or so for the rally.
I looked at the carburetor i took from Cheryls A way back on our 2nd day out,( it was running way to rich).
Looks like the main jet was loose ,also the little spring under the GAV needle is either missing or rusted out as the needle has no resistance what so ever ,so maybe something amiss there too.but i think the main jet was the culprit.
A walk around the caravan park showed up the most amazine old caravan with 6 wheels and about 50 ft long,an old one that maybe was towed by an old valiant or the likes.check the tow hitch out.
A nice relaxing day,
Dinner was a joint effort, (spicy pork and rice)I prepared the vegies and cut up the ingredients, then cut up the pork, cooked the rice under supervision 😄,then Cheryl cooked the pork and other spices, another great dinner, i am spoilt for sure.
Tomorrow we head off to Esperance and Ravensthorpe for the last night before Albany.
Norseman is where there is a Laterite nicklel and cobalt mining operation that is not operating, the stuff it produced was used in eletric vehicle batteries so it may fire up again soon.

Well , an easy day today at only 316 klms, but my way out of town turned out to be the wrong way, took 15ks to find out, and then headed right back into town and turned right instead of left , we were back on track.
The first part of the day was a nice drive, stopped at a very small locality (Salmon Gums), this had the best rest stop, lovely clean toilets , and the best ever shade table setup, it was a small covered rotunda, with pictures and stories of the early settlers of the area, plus the obligatory senataph and memorial.
Getting closer to Esperance the truck traffic increased as they are harvesting the grain, and is there plenty of it,we could feed half the world from here.
In Esperance we looked for a servo ,but only found a bulk self serve place, easy to use and quick.
Heading on the road from Esperance to Ravensthorpe were we are stopped for the night ,the road got a bit narrower and more grain trucks, but cleared the trucks , but the road stayed narrow until Ravensthorpe.
Along this stretch we fueled up at Munglinup, 2.75ltr,
Ariving in Ravensthorpe around 2-45 pm.
Funny thing we both agreed that this was a trying drive from Esperance.
Checking in at the caravan park where we had stayed on the trip to perth in 2004, the sign at the office tells us to find a site and get setup, the owner will come around later for us to pay, real easy, but we were spoilt for choice of sites , but set on a nice shady and flat site.
Dinner tonight was chicken with capsicum, corn and rice.
the flies were back so we put a small piece of chicken on a plate away from the cooker and the flies all zoomed over to it ,great.
Tomorrow we head to Albany a 293 klm drive.
Distance from home today is 4904 klm or 3701 miles

Today after 290 odd ks we are inAlbany where the rally is being held.
Left Ravensthorpe at around 8 this morning, packing up the camper in the rain, fueled up and headed off.
We worked out a better system for taking the photos along the way,Cheryl goes in front, and if she or I see anything that is intresting I stop and take the pics, then catch up .( we have UHF radios )
So this morning I got some interesting ones, like yesterday ,there is sooo much wheat out here it's unbelievable,so I took a close up of the wheat ,it looks great stuff.
also a couple of Emus feeding amongst the wheat,
also some of the unusual place names here in WA.
The brown stuff growing , i couldn work out what it was.
But in some places it had been turned into rows ready for a combine or something to pick it up.or bale it.
The trip from home to here in Albany was 3192 miles or 5188 klms, both engines never missed a beat,
Before heading home in a week or so,sometime in the next few days I will do a good service on both, grease ,another oil and filter change and maybe change the gearbox and diff oils ,

So glad you made it to Albania [as we call it ] Its been so good to see the great pictures on your journey over here. And hopefully you'll have no troubles on your return. Im not sure if your mobile phone number is the same but I might give you a call soon. Enjoy Albany its a really great town!

yes phone is same Rob
Today was a real easy day and no driving so not much happened.
We into town and got another couple of oil filters ,one to change out on Cheryls car and a spare for mine.
then some groceries , also bought another pair of thongs,(jandals for the kiwis ) as the other one were no good.
Did a big load of washing.
Lots of people stop to talk about our cars in the park.
there are a few other cars for the rally in the park as well and more coming tomorrow.
Cheryl washed her car wheels and i rearranged the service kit box.
We decided to try the new local fish and chips shop, got directions from the park owner, and promptly got lost,I did an illegal Uturn then we see a police car flashing lights and all go the other way, he does a U turn and we think,he must have seen me, but when he nearly got to us he turned off a side street, phew.
we had a good laugh.
the fish and chips were pretty good too.
Catch up day with friends and other entrants tomorrow
sorry no photos today.
Lawrie

We had our first day activities on the rally today.
We went out to the coastline here, its spectacular for sure,
also went to a whaling station that shut in 78 i think, it was a gruesome place to work in for sure, they processed 14600 whales over the time it was in operation.
we saw the cutting up area and the boiling down vats
there are 98 model As here for the rally and they are everywhere in town, the town has made us very welcome.
on the pathway on one of the walks today there was a snake getting warmed up in the sun, you should have seen a couple of asian tourists , they took off like crazy in a panic, the locals just walked past,no worries.
tomorrow we are on a bus trip to the giant trees so a bit of a novelty not to be driving our cars.
One of the cars in our group has a rear main problem and is using 2 lts oil per day.
they rigged up a little tray thingy onder the bell housing and drain it out every so often.
nights are still cold, specially last night when we left the tent flap open by mistake 😄

Lawrie…..great job with the travelogue!!…..thanks for taking the time to share it !…..hope you both have a safe trip!……….Mark

Great day today.
Bus trip ,so no driving, except to drive over to the rally headquarters.
We went to see the giant Tingle trees, very good from the elevated walkway,
The drive out in the bus was fun,we were at the back of a queue of about 30 Model A fords, about halfway there, one of the ones following us (a 30 tudor from rockhampton) pulled out and passed the bus and a car towing a caravan in front of the bus,on an uphill section of the road, our bus driver was so excited he nearly blew a gasket.
lunch was at a small place called Walpole,a nice stop, fresh filled rolls and cakes and fruit.
We all (35) boarded the bus for the trip back to town, a 110 klm trip.
Coming around a corner we find one of the A,s stopped in the middle of the road with a flat left rear tyre,it was the seventh time that tyre had gone flat on the trip,Man i would heave both the tyre and tube for sure.
We all got a road rules lesson from the driver about roundabouts and give ways, he must have thought we were bad drivers.
getting back in town after a big fun filled day.
we needed to be back at the rally headquarters for drinks and kniblies at 5,so were on a mission.
Back at the headquarters we had the trials of the HUbley races, great entertainment, timed to the thousands of a second.
Big day driving tomorrow,(not for us),for the mandatory run,we have some visitors with us so the Cheryls car will be full.
